\nThat same day, my neighbor\u2019s daughter texts me
\na photo of red bumps under her pubic hairs.
\nA bag of trash is the only thing in my refrigerator;
\nno time to take it out and it would have made
\nmy apartment smell like dead people.<\/p>\nThe people who die in hospitals\u2014you see it
\nin their skin\u2014grey and dry\u2014two days before
\nit happens. My chief tells me to notify the family
\nbut there was no one who cared, so I write it up.
\nA new patient sleeps in the dead patient\u2019s old bed.
\nJust as soon as the morgue people leave
\nthe nurse\u2019s assistant changes the sheets and
\nmops the floors in bleach.<\/p>\nDoctors skip lunch. I do too
\nto put off the depression that smacks me
\nwhen I stop propelling patients from bed,
\nto diagnostic test, to operating room and
\nstart propelling white bread and meat-mush
\nfrom esophagus to anus.<\/p>\n
